The second 'Star Wars' prequel maintains the throne at the North American box office with just $29.3 million, down 65 percent from its first weekend.

AceShowbiz - "Solo: A Star Wars Story" wasn't able to fly high in its second weekend after a disappointing debut in North American box office last week. The Ron Howard-directed movie added an estimated $29.3 million to its domestic revenue, down 65 percent from last weekend, but still holds on to the top position at the chart.

That brings the film's current domestic tally to $148.9 million, which means it is $135 million behind the previous "Star Wars" prequel, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". The 2016 film starring Felicity Jones made $64 million domestically in its second weekend.

Internationally, "Solo" added $30.3 million for a global total $115.3 million. It brings the movie's worldwide gross to date to $264.2 million.

Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore, thinks that the media coverage of "Solo" disappointing opening weekend may have affected the movie negatively. "Box office got conflated with perceived value of the movie and that might have affected its second weekend," he says. "Sometimes news of the box office can impact a movie's bottom line."

Back to the domestic chart, "Deadpool 2" maintains its runner-up position with additional $23.3 million, or dropping 46.3 percent from last weekend. "Adrift" is a newcomer with the highest debut at No. 3, raking in an estimated $11.5 million.

"Avengers: Infinity War" has a solid sixth weekend at No. 4 with approximately $10.4 million, dropping 40 percent from last weekend. "Book Club" starring Diane Keaton, Andy Garcia and Jane Fonda rounds out the top 5 with an estimated $6.8 million.

Elsewhere in the top 10, "Upgrade" debuts at No. 6 with approximately $4.4 million, while Johnny Knoxville's "Action Point" lands at No. 9 with an estimated $2.3 million.
