AceShowbiz - John Turturro and Rupert Everett will lead the cast of a new TV adaptation of Umberto Eco's acclaimed novel "The Name Of The Rose".
Turturro will take on Franciscan monk William of Baskerville, the character Sean Connery played in the 1986 film adaptation, while Everett portrays merciless 1327 inquisitor Bernard Gui, who prosecutes critics of The Pope.
The TV adaptation also features Michael Emerson and Damian Hardung, who plays Baskerville's apprentice, Adso von Melk, as he attempts to solve a series of murders in a remote Italian monastery. Christian Slater played the role in the film 32 years ago.
The project is currently shooting in Italy and will premiere there next year, before hitting TV screens in the U.S. and Canada via the Sundance network.
The latest adaptation was crafted by Andrea Porporati, Nigel Williams, and Giacomo Battiato, who is directing.
Jean-Jacques Annaud directed the original film.
