AceShowbiz - Khalid was the first big winner at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 20, picking up the Top New Artist prize.
The R&B star hot the stage and thanked his mum and paid tribute to the city of El Paso, Texas, where Friday's (May 18) high school shooting took place.
He added, "This is for the youth, this is for the young believers, for all the dreamers out there. Do not listen to negativity."
Prior to the awards show, Kendrick Lamar picked up six honours, including Top Rap Artist, and Bruno Mars claimed five.
