AceShowbiz - Nile Rodgers is set to be honored with the Les Paul Spirit Award at the 2018 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. The CHIC member will receive the third annual accolade, presented to "an individual who exemplifies the spirit of the late, great Les Paul through innovation, engineering, technology and/or music," at the Tennessee festival on June 9, on what would have been the guitar great's 103rd birthday.

"Nile Rodgers is an extraordinary talent that completely defines the word innovative," Michael Braunstein, Executive Director of The Les Paul Foundation, shares in a statement. "His personal story and great successes in the music industry cannot be overlooked and certainly not forgotten. He has been at the forefront of creating some of the most memorable music of our time."

He added, "If Les was here today I can guarantee you that Nile and he would have already collaborated on numerous occasions. I am honoured to present this year's Les Paul Spirit Award to such an outstanding recipient..."

Rodgers follows in the footsteps of the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir and The Edge from U2, who respectively served as the 2016 and 2017 honorees. The veteran singer will also be performing with CHIC as part of the Bonnaroo line-up, which will be headlined by Eminem, The Killers, Muse, and Future from 7 to 10 June.
