The musician's family said in a statement, 'Scott battled bravely with his own issues for many years and we are immensely proud of him for being so open with his struggles.'

AceShowbiz - Scott Hutchison's family have been left "utterly devastated" after police confirmed a body found on Thursday, May 10, was that of the Frightened Rabbit musician. The 36-year-old was reported missing by his family on Wednesday after he was last seen leaving the Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry near Edinburgh, Scotland in the early hours of that morning, and on Thursday evening, police officers found a body which needed to be identified.

On Friday, officers confirmed that the body they discovered at nearby Port Edgar was Hutchison's, and his family issued a statement via Police Scotland to express their grief over his death.

"As a family, we are utterly devastated with the tragic loss of our beloved Scott," they said. "Despite his disappearance, and the recent concerns over his mental health, we had all remained positive and hopeful that he would walk back through the door, having taken some time away to compose himself. In addition to his musical success, Scott was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend. Despite whatever else was going on in his life he always had time for those he cared for."

They said they have been "overwhelmed" by the love and support they had received, saying "it means the world to us", and thanked Police Scotland and the Dakota Hotel for their help during the investigation. Depression is a horrendous illness that does not give you any alert or indication as to when it will take hold of you. Scott battled bravely with his own issues for many years and we are immensely proud of him for being so open with his struggles."

"His willingness to discuss these matters in the public domain undoubtedly raised awareness of mental health issues and gave others confidence and belief to discuss their own issues," they continued, before concluding the statement by asking for privacy while they deal with their loss.

Hutchison appeared in Frightened Rabbit with his brother Grant, among others, in indie group Mastersystem and as a solo artist under the name Owl John.
