Filmmaker Carlos Carvalho Dies After Being Hit by a Giraffe on Set

According to sources, the award-winning filmmaker was attempting to get close-up footage of the giraffe's body and feet when the animal headbutted him, causing massive head injuries.

AceShowbiz - Award-winning filmmaker Carlos Carvalho has been killed in South Africa. "The Forgotten Kingdom" director died after suffering trauma following a scary encounter with a giraffe he was filming during time off from a new series about a British family who have created the Glen Afric Country Lodge.

According to Variety sources, Carvalho was attempting to get close-up footage of Gerald the giraffe's body and feet when the animal headbutted him, causing massive head injuries. The fillmaker was airlifted to Johannesburg's Milpark Hospital, where he died from his injuries on Wednesday night, May 02.

"It is with a very sad heart that we have to announce the passing of Carlos Carvalho‚" a statement from film agency CallaCrew reads. "Carlos was filming a feature at Glen Afric and had a fatal run in with a giraffe on set. He was flown to Milpark Hospital but succumbed to his injuries... Our thoughts and condolences go out to Carlo's family and friends during this very sad time. He will be sorely missed."

He won the Silver Lion award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003 for a public service announcement for Childline.
