AceShowbiz - Tina Turner is "excited" to be the subject of a new documentary feature film. Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin, who directed the Oscar-winning sports documentary "Undefeated", are planning to tell Tina's story on the big screen. It is the first time she has endorsed an official full-length feature, which will be produced by her husband Erwin Bach, among others.
The musician hopes the new documentary, which was announced on Friday, May 4, will reveal a new side of her to fans and is promising the new film will delve into her private life. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Simply the Best" singer said, "This is the first time I've agreed to a be part of a major documentary about my life and it's certainly a leap of faith!"
"I'm excited about the process we're about to embark on and hope my story, presented in an honest and authentic way and made by award-winning documentary filmmakers, will give audiences a true sense of what life has been from my point of view," she said. "And if my story inspires people and gives them hope it will have been worth it."
Tina, 78, is enjoying renewed popularity among fans as her turbulent life is the subject of a musical which recently opened in London's West End. "Tina - The Tina Turner Musical", starring Adrienne Warren, follows her rise to fame and escape from her abusive partner and collaborator Ike Turner. The production, which Tina has co-produced, has earned strong early reviews.
The new film is yet to get a release date, but its producers are hoping to sell it to distributors at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off on May 8.
