Paul Rudd Trades His Glove for a Gun in 'The Catcher Was a Spy' Trailer
Movie

The 'Ant-Man' actor plays an athlete who is trained to become an American spy to help the U.S. defeat Nazi Germany during World War II.

AceShowbiz - Paul Rudd may be M.I.A. in "Avengers: Infinity War", but he's still up for some actions in another movie. The "Ant-Man" actor stars in "The Catcher Was a Spy", which is based on a true story of Morris "Moe" Berg, a Boston Red Sox catcher turned U.S. spy.

Being able to speak seven languages and having done successful circuits on numerous trivia quiz shows, Moe meets the requirement to become a spy. A newly released trailer for the movie shows his recruitment process and how he is trained for the dangerous mission.

Once his training is complete, he bids farewell to his love interest, played by Sienna Miller, and heads overseas. His task is to infiltrate the Nazi atomic program and gather information from gifted physicist Werner Heisenberg (Mark Strong).

Moe Berg is an Ivy League grad and attorney who goes on to play baseball for 15 years for teams that included the Chicago White Sox. What was unknown to his teammates was that Berg doubled as a top secret spy for the OSS (later transferring to the CIA), who helped the U.S. win the race against Germany to build the atomic bomb.

Directed by Ben Lewin, the drama movie also stars Guy Pearce, Jeff Daniels, Paul Giamatti, Tom Wilkinson and Connie Nielsen among others. The R-rated film was penned by Robert Rodat and is set to be released in U.S. theaters and on VOD on June 22.

Paul Rudd has shows his volatility, being known for his roles in drama movie "The Cider House Rules" (1999), slasher film "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" (1995), and some comedy films like "Clueless" (1995), "Wet Hot American Summer" (2001), "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" (2004), "Knocked Up" (2007) and "Wanderlust" (2012).

He made his debut as Marvel's character Scott Lang / Ant-Man in "Ant-Man" (2015) and reprised the role in "Captain America: Civil War" (2016). He will return as the superhero in "Ant-Man and the Wasp", which is due out July 6 in the United States.
