After successfully entertaining audiences with 'It', New Line Cinema is going back into Stephen King's novels inventory to find a 1979 novel worth filming.

AceShowbiz - After working on Stephen King's novel-adaptated "It", New Line Cinema has eyed another novel written by the novelist. The Warner Bros. division is trying to adapt "The Long Walk" into a horror flick, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
King's novel was written around 1966-1967 and was published in 1979 under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. The novel tells a story of a group of 100 teenage boy contestants in dystopian future America. The teenagers should go on a long and non-stop journey under strict rules. Contestants who violate the rules three times are "ticketed" and shot dead. The event, run by The Major, ends when there is only one of the contestants standing alive to receive the prize, anything he wants for the rest of his life.
James Vanderbilt, whose credits include "Zodiac", "White House Down" and "The Amazing Spider-Man", has written the script for the movie. Vanderbilt and Bradley Fisher have been setting up the project for over a decade. Vanderbilt even wrote his initial drafts several years ago, without acquiring the screen rights.
Vanderbilt, who recently penned and directed 2015's drama "Truth", will also produce the flick alongside Fisher. As the two are fans of the book, they are eager to adapt it into a movie. They will also serve as producers alongside William Sherak. Meanwhile, Tracey Nyberg will executive produce through Mythology Entertainment.
Mythology Entertainment currently has three horror flicks which are set to be released this year. The projects include "Slender Man" that will open on August 24, "The House with a Clock in Its Walls" that is slated for September 21, and "Suspiria" remake which is set to be released in fall.
The movie was initially developed by writer-director Frank Darabont after acquiring the right for the movie. Darabont is known for working on Stephen's adaptation movie "The Shawshank Redemption", "The Green Mile" and "The Mist".
