In response to Freeman's criticism of the show's fanbase, the Sherlock Holmes depicter says, 'It's pretty pathetic if that's all it takes to let you not want to take a grip of your reality.'

AceShowbiz - While their characters get along well in solving mysteries on "Sherlock", it seems like it's not the case for the actors, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Cumberbatch, who plays the iconic and eccentric titular detective, expressed his disagreement over his co-star's opinion about the show's fanbase.

Freeman previously said that doing "Sherlock" was "not fun anymore." The Doctor John Watson depictor added, "People's expectations, some of it's not fun anymore. It's not a thing to be enjoyed, it's a thing of: 'You better f***ing do this, otherwise, you're a c**t.' "

In response to Freeman's criticism, Cumberbatch dubbed that it was "pretty pathetic." The "Doctor Strange" star said, "It's pretty pathetic if that's all it takes to let you not want to take a grip of your reality."

"What, because of expectations? I don't know. I don't necessarily agree with that," he continued saying. "There's a level of obsession where [the franchise] becomes [the fans'] even though we're the ones making it. But I just don't feel affected by that in the same way, I have to say."

The PBS series' season 4 ended over a year ago on January 15, 2017. As of now, there is no concrete plan in making a fifth season of the series based on the famed novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. If anything, season 5 is considered highly unlikely to happen anytime soon since both Cumberbatch and Freeman are busy.

Writer and actor Mark Gatiss further fueled the rumors, saying, "I honestly don't know if there will be any more. It's incredibly difficult to get Benedict and Martin's diaries to align." The actor, who portrays Mycroft Holmes on the series, went on explaining, "And obviously we left it in a very happy place...if that's the end I'd be very happy where we left it."
