The Chainsmokers has been on fire these months. After releasing "Sick Boy" and "You Owe Me", the DJ/record producer duo premiered a new single entitled "Everybody Hates Me" on Thursday, March 15.

The song finds Andrew Taggart singing about feeling lonely and self-critical despite being famous and having hordes of adoring fans. "I'm a product of the internet/ And now, I'm face to face with all the voices in my head/ I can't even check the time without facing regrets," he sings. "Why do I still have to mean everything I said? And I'm not trying to be like 'poor me,' I made it."

"Everybody Hates Me" receives positive responses from fans, with many saying that they can totally relate to the song. "The title is literally my life in a nutshell," one fan writes in the comment section. Another says, "These lyrics all my life..."

One fan, meanwhile, jokingly says that the group is hated because they eat their guests, making a reference to their music video for "You Owe Me". The said fan writes, "No wonder Everybody Hates You when you eat the guests you invite for dinner..."

"Everybody Hates Me" was first played at their Vienna show on February 10, serving as the final song of the European leg of their "Memories...Do Not Open" tour. The song was expected to be released in that same month, but The Chainsmokers released "You Owe Me" instead.

Since welcoming the new year, the "Closer" hitmakers, who are known for their love songs, have been releasing tracks which lean more towards a darker direction. Talking about their new approach, Andrew said, "The next topic is a little bit darker, but I think that's the tone of society right now. Our stuff is always a reflection of what's going on in our lives and the world around us."
