AceShowbiz - It's been months since reports emerged that Sony Pictures is developing another Spider-Man spin-off focusing on Nightwatch. Now, it's reported that the studio is moving forward with the project with Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee at the helm.
The "Oldboy" director had been eyed to sit behind the lens since the story ran last year and now The Hashtag Show says that he's on board the spin-off. The site provides another update regarding the script. While previous report said Edward Ricourt ("Now You See Me") was developing a script for the film, a source says Lee will work off a script provided by "Luke Cage" showrunner Cheo Hodari Choker.
Sony Executive Vice President Palak Patel is supervising the film's development. Plot details and casting info are not available yet.
"Nightwatch" will focus on Doctor Kevin Trench, who was first introduced in "Web of Spider-Man" #97. Trench started his vigilante adventure after stumbling across a dead man wearing a suit. When he took off the costume and unmasked the corpse, he learned that it was actually an older version of himself.
