In the upcoming musical drama called 'Vox Lux', the 36-year-old Jerusalem-born actress plays a pop star who gains unexpected success after an unusual set of circumstances.

AceShowbiz - Natalie Portman goes edgy for a new movie role. The Oscar-winning actress was spotted sporting a shorter hairstyle, giving off major punk rock vibes, while filming "Vox Lux" in Uptown Manhattan, New York, on Tuesday, February 27.

Portman swapped her good-girl look for something far worse as she was photographed wearing a pair of torn jeans, a black puffer coat over her blue sweatshirt and silver aviators. Her brown locks were tightly slicked back in an updo, making it seem as if she had chopped off her hair.

In "Vox Lux", Portman plays Celeste, described as a pop star who gains unexpected success after an unusual set of circumstances. Set between 1999 and the present day, the musical drama follows the rise of Celeste from the ashes of a major national tragedy to pop superstardom. This 15-year odyssey tracks the important cultural evolution of the 21st century via her gaze.

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" star Rooney Mara was originally cast as Celeste before she decided to drop the role in January. Hearing of the vacancy, Portman expressed her interest in the film. "We are thrilled to welcome such a stellar actress to the cast," said Bold Films Chairman Michel Litvak a few weeks ago.

In the upcoming movie which is directed by Brady Corbet from a script he wrote, Portman stars alongside Jude Law, Stacy Martin and "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" actress Raffey Cassidy. Aside from starring, the 36-year-old Jerusalem-born actress serves as an executive producer on the film.

It's not the first time though, that Portman channeled her inner bad girl. The "Black Swan" star recently rocked another rock star look while doing an epic rapping skit on "Saturday Night Live". She rapped about "Star Wars" prequel while adding Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" references as she rapped about making "mommy moves." Set at a hospital, the actress spit her fiery bars, "I make mommy moves/ When I gave a birth, I don't even push."

Earlier this month, the "Annihilation" star talked about her "SNL" performance, saying that she wasn't willing to take all the credit. "Those Lonely Island [The Lonely Island] guys, Akiva [Akiva Schaffer] and Andy [Andy Samberg] are amazing and they basically just showed me how to do it."
