"Extremely Wicked" is told through the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, who went years denying the accusations against Ted but ultimately turned him in to the police. Only nearing his execution, when Ted began talking about his extensive and heinous murders, did Liz, and the rest of the world, learn the true scope of his numerous and grizzly crimes.

Ted was executed in 1989 at the age of 42 at Florida State Prison after being found guilty on charges of assaulting and murdering multiple girls and women. He confessed to 30 killings, shortly before his execution. Authorities believed he might have been responsible for many more.

No release date has been set just yet for the upcoming biopic, which Joe Berlinger directs from a script written by Michael Werwie. Serving as producers are Michael Costigan, Nicolas Chartier, Ara Keshishian, Michael Simkin and Jason Barrett, with Voltage Pictures handling the distribution.

Jim Parsons has joined the cast as Larry Simpson, the lead prosecutor in 1979 Miami trial that finally convicted Ted, while John Malkovich takes on the role of Judge Edward Cowart. Other cast members include Angela Sarafyan as Joanna, Jeffrey Donovan as John O'Connell, Grace Victoria Cox as Carol Daronch, Kaya Scodelario as Carole Anne Boone, Haley Joel Osment as Jerry, Terry Kinney as Detective Mike Fisher and Dylan Baker as David Yokum.
