Ji Sung's mother, who was involved in a car accident in late December and had been hospitalized in Great Britain, passed away on January 12, the same day his grandmother died.

AceShowbiz - Former pro-soccer player Park Ji Sung is mourning the loss of his mother and grandmother at the same time. It was earlier reported that Ji Sung's mother Jang Myung Ja passed away from a car accident on January 12.

However, latest reports reveal that Myung Ja was involved in a car accident sometime in late December last year and had been hospitalized in critical condition at a hospital in Great Britain. Sadly, she ultimately passed away in the early morning of Friday, January 12.

It's also revealed that Ji Sung's grandmother Kim Mae Shim passed away on the afternoon of January 12, at a nursing hospital in Gyeonggi-do. She was 82 years old at the time of her death.

The EPL's Manchester United, where Ji Sung used to play, has taken to the team's promotion SNS platform for their Korean fans to send their condolences. "Every member of the Manchester United team would like to extend a hand of comfort for Park Ji Sung. Please rest in peace," it stated.

Ji Sung is the only son of his family. His career was rising after he helped the South Korean national team make it to the semifinals during the 2002 FIFA World Cup. In 2003, he joined Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

He signed for EPL's Manchester United for 4 million poundsterling in 2005. After receiving less first-team football in his last season at Manchester United, Ji Sung moved to Queens Park Rangers in 2012. He rejoined PSV on loan for the 2013-14 season, before he announced his retirement in May 2014.

He currently serves as a director of the youth department of the Korea Football Association. He is also an ambassador for the 2018 Pyeonchang Winter Olympics and a global ambassador for the EPL's Manchester United FC.

Ji Sung married former television reporter Kim Min Ji on July 27, 2014 in South Korea. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, in November 2015.
