Marvel Studios has reportedly hired Schaeffer, who wrote 'The Shower', to pen the script for the potential standalone movie starring Scarlett Johansson.

AceShowbiz - Black Widow may finally get her own movie soon. Marvel Studios has reportedly begun developing a standalone film centering on Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow, who is portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sources tell Variety that the project is still in very early stage of development, but Marvel has shown its clear intention by tapping Jac Schaeffer to pen the script. Marvel President Kevin Feige had reportedly met with several other candidates before hiring Schaeffer. The studio execs have also met with Johansson to talk about what they wanted from a "Black Widow" writer.

Schaeffer made her feature screenwriting debut with the 2009 Tribeca film "TiMER", which she also directed. She broke out with her Black List script "The Shower", a comedy about an alien invasion during a baby shower which has Anne Hathaway attached to star in and produce. Hathaway is also set to star in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" remake "Nasty Woman" written by Schaeffer.

Black Widow was first featured in 2010's "Iron Man 2" and has since appeared in many Marvel's films, including "The Avengers" films, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Captain America: Civil War".

Feige and Johansson have long voiced their interest in making a Black Widow movie, but Marvel greenlit "Captain Marvel" movie first with Brie Larson taking on the titular role, making it the first Marvel movie centering on a female superhero.

Johansson will reprise her role as the Russian spy-turned-superhero, Black Widow, in "Avengers: Infinity War", which is set to be released in the U.S. on May 4, and in the currently untitled "Avengers 4", which is still in production for a May 3, 2019 release.
