The official trailer from Paramount Pictures reveals that the gnomes are back to investigate a mystery with the help of Sherlock Gnomes, voiced by Johnny Depp.

AceShowbiz - It has been almost seven years since cute, animated film "Gnomeo and Juliet" successfully amused cinemagoers. And the charming characters are now back for a sequel called "Sherlock Gnomes", which will introduce some new characters including a gnome version of the famous British detective, Sherlock Holmes, and his trusty colleague Watson. Ahead of the film's release, the first trailer for the animated flick has now made its way out via PEOPLE.

The trailer introduces Johnny Depp as the titular character, who joins the original gang of gnomes to investigate a menacing mystery that lurks in the garden. The footage starts with the narrator saying, "Gnomeo and Juliet are moving to a whole new garden." The new London garden has a mud pool, and everything is all sunny and bright. Gnomeo and Juliet, who are getting their new garden ready for spring, are supposed to live happily ever after. But when they return home, they discover that their friends and family are missing, gnome-napped by a mysterious foe.

Desperate, the couple then hires legendary detective Sherlock Gnomes, who arrives with his sidekick Watson. The "sworn protector of garden gnomes" leads the gang on an exciting adventure where they explore an undiscovered side of the city and meet new garden ornaments along the way. Gnomeo is shown to get himself tangled in the mystery mess. Consequently, Juliet, along with Sherlock, has to follow clues to save him.

The trailer also unleashes fart jokes at 25-second mark. It doesn't take one minute for the trailer to burst out the flatulence in order to invite some chuckles and snickers.

Original voice actors James McAvoy and Emily Blunt reprise the roles of the first film's titular couple, while Watson is brought to life by Chiwetel Ejiofor. The animated film has also cast a number of big names such as Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Stephen Merchant and Mary J. Blige. The film features original music by Elton John and Bernie Taupin.

The upcoming animated film is directed by "Kung Fu Panda" co-helmer John Stevenson based on a script by Ben Zazove. "Sherlock Gnomes", produced by Rocket Pictures, Paramount Animation and Metro-Goldwyn Mayer, opens in U.S. theaters on March 23, 2018.
