The 'How I Met Your Mother' alum's family take Halloween to the next level with their spooky carnival-themed costumes.

Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka and their two children, Harper and Gideon, always take Halloween to the next level. This year was not an exception. The "How I Met Your Mother" alum posted on Instagram on October 31 a picture of the family's costumes.
Harris, who revealed that the theme for this year was "Carnival of Curiosities", dressed up as a devious-looking ringleader, holding a big, red megaphone. Burtka, on the other hand, took on the role of Twisty, the terrifying clown from "American Horror Story" season four which was called "Freak Show".
But it was actually the children who stole the show. Gideon played an intimidating, mustache-wearing strongman, while Harper dressed up as a bearded lady. Harris captioned the picture, "Hurry, Hurry! Step right up and behold the Burtka-Harris Halloween Carnival of Curiosities!"
He later shared a behind-the-scenes collage from the festive shoot. "Love the outtakes!" he wrote, adding that it was Burtka who chose the theme and convinced the children. Harris gushed, "He's awesome like that." The 42-year-old actor also shared on Instagram the photo outtakes. He captioned it, "Trick or Freaks! Halloween photo outtakes. So much fun."
Fans soon commented on the pictures, saying that it was amazing and that the family won Halloween again. A fan wrote, "Amazing costumes! Mean this completely as a compliment but it's amazing what you can do with time and money! Way to go #NPH!! Would love to be so creative with my family of six!"
Winning the spooky holiday is nothing new for the quartet. Last year, the family wowed everyone when they dressed up as classic Hollywood stars and posed at a vintage theater. Harris was comedian Groucho Marx, while Burtka dressed up as Charlie Chaplin. Meanwhile, the twins dressed up as the cuter versions of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean.
