'Thor: Ragnarok' Helmer Taika Waititi Wants to Helm a Solo Black Widow Movie, but With a Twist

'I reckon I could probably bring something pretty unique to any of the franchises, so I'd love to see Black Widow,' Waititi says after being asked if there's any other Marvel movie he'd like to helm.

AceShowbiz - After completing his directing duties on November's "Thor: Ragnarok", Taika Waititi seemingly has already set his eyes on another Marvel character for him to take a stab at, if he ever got the chance. During an interview with io9, the New Zealand helmer was asked if there's another Avenger beside Thor that he felt his sense of humor would suit.

Waititi responded by saying that he'd like the chance to tackle a Black Widow stand-alone movie, and he'd do it as a comedy. "In all honesty, I reckon I could probably bring something pretty unique to any of the franchises, so I'd love to see Black Widow," he told the site, referring to the character played by Scarlett Johansson in "The Avengers" film franchise.

"[I'd like to see] Black Widow as something crazy and a bit funnier than we expect it to be, because we know her story and it's very sullen and very dark and her history is very dark," the funny filmmaker and actor explained. "But! What's the funny version of that? What's the more entertaining version of that?" he pointed out.

Waititi also admitted he's always gone "for the underdog" and believed he has what it takes to bring Black Widow's back story, which has been hinted briefly in the "Avengers" movies but never explored fully, to audience. He added, "You just have to find it and find what honors what's already there with the source material but also brings it into a more entertaining form for the audience."

Waititi isn't the only one who wants to do a Black Widow solo movie, as the Black Widow herself, Johansson, previously said she "often" spoke to Marvel about the idea. "I talked to them about it often. It would have to fit in the idea of where they want to go. I'm invested in that character. Marvel is greatly invested in that character. If I did it, I'd have to do it while I still actually wanted to wear a skin-tight catsuit. I don't know how much longer that's going to be," she said last year.

"I would like for it to happen under the right circumstances," the 32-year-old actress continued. "I think there's a lot of opportunity to mine that story line. She's got a really rich origins story. There's a lot of places you can go - you can bring it back to Russia. You could explore the Widow program. There's all kinds of stuff that you could do with it. You could really uncover the identity of who this person is, where she comes from and where she's part of."
