The four-time Grammy winner portrays Lady Eve, who will be the brigde between crime-lord Tobias Whale and a secret group of corrupt leaders.

AceShowbiz - The CW's upcoming series "Black Lightning" has added yet another musician to its cast. Grammy-winning singer Jill Scott has been tapped to play villainous Lady Eve.

Scott's Lady Eve will be the brigde between crime-lord Tobias Whale (Marvin Jones III a.k.a. rapper Krodon) and a secret group of corrupt leaders. Lady Eve presents herself as an owner of a funeral parlor in Freeland, but quickly becomes an adversary to Jefferson Pierce a.k.a. Black Lightning (Cress Williams).

Debuting in 1985's "Batman and the Outsiders" #24, Lady Eve is depicted as a member of the nefarious Kobra Cult. People assume that the cult will be the mysterious group that she represents on The CW series.

"Jill is an amazing artist who can embody any character and give them an authentic voice that is both nuanced and richly complex," showrunner and executive producer Salim Akil said of the singer-songwriter, who won four Grammies. "I am excited to see her in the role of Lady Eve."

In addition to "Black Lightning", Scott's credits include "Fringe", "Why Did I Get Married?", "Steel Magnolias" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". The "A Long Walk" singer is no stranger to superhero projects as well. She previously lent her voice to Storm on BET's animated series "Black Panther" in 2010.

On "Black Lightning", Scott will be joined by Nafessa Williams ("Code Black") and China Anne McClain ("House of Payne") who will play Pierce's daughters Thunder and Lightning respectively. Hailing from Salim and Mara Brock Akil alongside super-producer Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter, "Black Lightning" tells a story about Jefferson Pierce, a high school principal and retired superhero with electricity powers who suits back up when both his daughters and his community are threatened by Tobias Whale's 100 Gang.

While the exact release date hasn't been announced, "Black Lightning" is expected to debut in 2018 on The CW.
