Maks Chmerkovskiy Skipped 'Dancing with the Stars' Performance Due to Feuding With Vanessa Lachey

'They both have big personalities and that's not always the best recipe for a good partnership,' said a source of the 37-year-old pro dancer and his 'DWTS' partner.

AceShowbiz - The cast of "Dancing with the Stars" season 25 is already feuding with each other. In the new episode of the ABC dancing competition, Maksim Chmerkovskiy didn't dance with his partner Vanessa Lachey. Instead, Alan Bersten stepped in for the pro dancer and danced a Jazz to "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" with the TV personality.

Co-host Erin Andrews announced in the opening of the show, "Maks is dealing with personal issue so Alan is stepping in and dancing with Vanessa tonight." Alan returned to the show after he and partner Debbie Gibson were eliminated last week.

However, a source claims to PEOPLE that Maks skipped the performance by choice because of his on-going conflict with the former Miss Teen USA. "There's a big chemistry issue," the insider reveals.

"They both have big personalities and that's not always the best recipe for a good partnership," the insider goes on saying. It is also said that the pair "have been fighting a lot."

Maks previously was feuding with his season 13 partner, soccer star Hope Solo. The husband of Peta Murgatroyd said at that time, "That's literally the only person that I could dislike from my past, present or future."

However, Maks' relationships with his "DWTS" partners are not always bad. The 37-year-old pro dancer seemingly bonded just fine with Olympic skater Meryl Davis in season 18. "I feel that I can really be myself with Maks. He pushes me to stand up for myself, whether it's in real life or on the dance floor. It's cool," said Meryl, who brought home the Mirrorball Trophy of the season.
