Disney Developing 'Cyrano the Moor' Musical With David Oyelowo Starring

The 41-year-old actor will lead the live-action musical which is said to be a mash-up of Shakespeare's revenge tale 'Othello' and the French play 'Cyrano de Bergerac'.

AceShowbiz - "Cyrano the Moor" musical is in development at Disney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming live-action musical will be a combination of Shakespeare's revenge tale "Othello" and the classic French play "Cyrano de Bergerac", which tells the story of a large-nosed romantic who uses his words to help another man win the affection of the woman he loves.

David Oyelowo has been attached to star in the new musical written by "Moonlight" playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney. The 41-yea-old actor is also set to produce the film alongside his wife, English actress Jessica Oyelowo. Yoruba Saxon, who worked with the actor on "A United Kingdom", will also produce, with Tendo Nagenda and Chaz Salembier overseeing for the studio.

No release date has been announced, and additional casting has not yet been unveiled. Both "Othello" and "Cyrano de Bergerac" have been adapted into the big screen many times, with Steve Martin doing a modern "Cyrano" in 1987's film "Roxanne". "Othello" have also adapted to the screen several times, including a 1995 version starring Laurence Fishburne and a modernized version set in an American high school titled "O" with Mekhi Phifer starring in 2001.

Oyelowo previously worked with Disney in last year's biographical sports drama "Queen of Katwe". Also starring Lupita Nyong'o andcMadina Nalwanga%, the film depicts the life of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan girl living in a slum in Katwe who learns to play chess and becomes a Woman Candidate Master after her victories at World Chess Olympiads.

Oyelowo will next be seen in producer J.J. Abrams' "God Particle", the third installment in the "Cloverfield" movie series, and is currently filming Doug Liman's YA adaptation "Chaos Walking", starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland. The actor is also back as the voice of Agent Kallus in the fourth and final season of "Star Wars Rebels", which kicks off on October 16.
