Nicholas Van Varenberg, 21, has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly holding his roommate at knifepoint

AceShowbiz - Jean-Claude Van Damme's youngest son Nicholas Van Varenberg has been arrested for allegedly holding his roommate at knifepoint. The 21-year-old was taken into custody on Sunday, September 10 in Tempe, AZ, after allegedly assaulting his roommate.

According to PEOPLE, earlier that day police got a call after Nicholas allegedly punched the side of an elevator in his building. Cops found a trail of blood leading to his apartment and after speaking with him and a roommate, they found that Nicholas injured his hand.

Police left after responding to that welfare call, but 20 minutes later the roommate ran downstairs, claiming that Nicholas lashed out at him for letting the cops in to perform a welfare check. He allegedly held the victim hostage with a knife.

Cops immediately searched the apartment and found a knife, marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the residence. He was booked at the Tempe jail and was released earlier this week. His bail was set at $10,000.

Nicholas is facing several charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful imprisonment, assault with cause fear of injury, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nicholas is Jean-Claude Van Damme's son from his fourth wife, actress Darcy LaPier, whom he married in February 1994. While he has tended to shy away from the spotlight, Nicholas will soon follow in the footsteps of his actor father as he has landed a minor role in his father's upcoming movie "Kickboxer: Retaliation".

Nicholas and a rep for his father have not responded to request for comment.

According to Radar Online, prior to the assault charge, Nicholas was arrested two times last year for theft and underage drinking. He pleaded guilty in both cases. He was ordered to pay a $325 fine for underage drinking on February 6, 2016, and was "given credit for one day of jail time" in the theft case which took place in December 2016.
