The 'Hello' hitmaker is reportedly in talks to play Nancy in the new take on the 1968 classic.

AceShowbiz - It looks like Adele is about to make her acting debut. The 29-year-old Grammy-winning singer is reportedly being approached by film execs to star in a new film adaptation of the hit musical "Oliver!". The Sun is the first to report the news, stating that the singer is currently in talks to play Nancy in the new take on the 1968 classic.

A source close to Adele said that "it would be a major part for her and she's seriously considering it." The source went on saying, "She's talked about Angelo being her number one priority and she sees this as a role that he could appreciate, too." The source added, "It would be a new challenge for her but one she would definitely be up for."

Should Adele nab the role, it would be the first acting role for the British singer-songwriter, whose song "Skyfall" for the James Bond film of the same name won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song as well as the Brit Award for British Single of the Year.

Adele said back in June that she's done with touring. In a message to fans, the mother of 4-year-old Angelo said that she "only ever did this tour for you and to hopefully have an impact on you the way that some of my favorite artists have had on me live."

The new "Oliver!" musical will be based on Charles Dickens' novel "Oliver Twist". The original film adaptation directed by Carol Reed from a screenplay written by Vernon Harris was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won 6, including Best Picture, Best Director for Reed and an Honorary Award for coreographer Onna White.

The new film adaptation will be helmed by British TV director Toby Haynes, who is best known for his work on "Doctor Who", "Sherlock", "Being Human" and "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell". It's being produced by Cameron Mackintosh. No release date has been set just yet.
