The 'Narcos' star is in negotiations to play the antagonist in the follow-up to the 2014 neo-noir vigilante action thriller.

AceShowbiz - Pedro Pascal is close to joining Denzel Washington in "The Equalizer 2". Variety has reported that the "Narcos" star is in negotiations to play the antagonist in the follow-up to the 2014 neo-noir vigilante action thriller, which was directed by Antoine Fuqua.

Fuqua is returning to direct with a script provided by the writer behind the first film, Richard Wenk. Washington is producing "The Equalizer" sequel along with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Alex Siskin, Michael Sloan, Tony Eldridge and Mace Neufeld.

In the first movie, Washington portrays Robert McCall, who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and has dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when he meets a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can't stand idly by - he has to help her.

Plot details of the sequel are still scarce, other than that Washington will reprise his role as the former special ops agent who now helps those who can't defend themselves. Details on Pascal's character are yet to be revealed. The film is set for a September 14, 2018 release in theaters across the United States.

The sequel is a big move for Sony Pictures, as this marks the first time Washington has ever reprised a role in his career. It is also such a priority for Washington that Fuqua dropped out as director of Universal's "Scarface" remake to focus on the Sony film.

Aside from "Narcos" season 3, Pascal can next be seen in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle". In the film which opens on September 22, he stars opposite Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Channing Tatum among others.

Pascal is best known for portraying the role of Prince Oberyn in the fourth season of HBO's "Game of Thrones". The Chilean actor was last seen in the big screen in last year's "The Great Wall", in which he stars alongside Matt Damon, Willem Dafoe, Jing Tian and Andy Lau.
