Jack Thorne, who wrote the upcoming Julia Roberts-starring movie 'Wonder', has been tapped to work on the script of the next 'Star Wars' installment.

AceShowbiz - "Star Wars Episode IX" gets a new writer. Jack Thorne, whose most notable work is perhaps the play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", has been hired to rewrite the script of the next "Star Wars" movie to be directed by Colin Trevorrow.

Trevorrow and Derek Connolly wrote previous drafts of the "Episode IX" script, but sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that "a fresh set of eyes was needed." The site originally reported that "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" helmer and scribe Rian Johnson wrote a treatment for the ninth installment, but he has corrected the report. "Small correction: I did not write a treatment for IX," he tweeted.

"The Last Jedi" sees the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Lupita Nyong'o as Maz Kanata, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, and Andy Serkis as Snoke. It is set to be released on December 15 in U.S. theaters.

The ninth film, meanwhile, is slated to kick off production in January 2018 for a May 24, 2019 release.
