A bunch of emojis seemingly manage to defeat an iconic web crawler, in terms of social media buzz. According to ComScore and its PreAct service, "The Emoji Movie" generated 38,571 new conversations on social media after the release of its first trailer on Tuesday, May 16. "Spider-Man: Homecoming", meanwhile, only nabbed a total of 26,292 new conversations in the same week.

"The Emoji Movie" and "Spider-Man" sat at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively on the social media buzz chart. Meanwhile, "Baywatch" sat at No. 1 as it generated 58,524 conversations, while "Wonder Woman" sat at the second place with approximately 47,000 conversations. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" sat at the third place of the chart, generating approximately 44,000 conversations online.

While social media buzz can be a useful indicator of public interests, it isn't necessarily a sign of success or failure. "Baywatch", for instance, didn't make a very good start at the box office despite sitting at No. 1 on the social media buzz chart. The movie starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Efron was defeated by "Pirates of the Caribbean 5", which opened to $62.6 million on the three-day weekend and $77 million after Memorial Day.

"The Emoji Movie" will follow three emojis which embark on an epic adventure through a smartphone to save their world from deletion. Starring in the animated film are T.J. Miller, James Corden, Anna Faris and Patrick Stewart. The movie is set to be released in the U.S. on July 28.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" is set after the events in "Captain America: Civil War". Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter (Tom Holland) returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine-distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man-but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Also starring in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" are Donald Glover, Zendaya Coleman, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly and Bokeem Woodbine. The movie will hit U.S. theaters on July 7.
