'Paddington 2' Gets a January 2018 Release Date

The sequel will follow the beloved Peruvian bear who does a series of bizarre jobs to buy a present for Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday.

AceShowbiz - The Weinstein Company has just set a release date for "Paddington 2". The sequel of the family film "Paddington" is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on January 12, 2018.

Returning for "Paddington 2" are Ben Whishaw and Imelda Staunton, who lent their voices to Paddington and Aunt Lucy respectively. Hugh Grant, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Madeleine Harris and Brendan Gleeson are also starring in the film.

"Paddington" is based on 1958's children books by Michael Bond. The first movie followed a beloved talking Peruvian bear who was lost in Paddington station in London and later met the Brown family, who offered him a temporary home. "Paddington" was released in late 2014 and earned nearly $270 million worldwide.

The upcoming sequel, meanwhile, will follow the bear who does a series of bizarre jobs to buy the perfect present for Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday. When the gift is stolen, the bear and the Browns make some attempts to find the thief.

Heyday Films and Studiocanal are teaming up for "Paddington 2", with David Heyman producing. Paul King returns to helm the film from a script he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby.

Paddington will compete with two other movies on January 12, which include Liam Neeson's action thriller "The Commuter" and Sony's "White Boy Rick".
