The CW debuts first trailer for new DC superhero series "Black Lightning". It opens with introduction from one of Jefferson Pierce's daughters, "Black Lightning was a savior who kept our streets and our schools safe. He was hope personified, but he was also Jefferson Pierce, my father."

After too many nights with his life and his family on the line, Pierce left his vigilante days behind to become a high school principal. However, crime and corruption are spreading like wildfire in his neighborhood so he is forced to come out of retirement to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

Pierce is not the only one in the family that has superhuman powers though. His two daughters follow in his footsteps as well. "The anger was just under the surface for all of us," she says. "If you mess with me, my sister, my mother, or the innocent in this city, you're gonna get lit up."

Cress Williams ("Hart of Dixie") is cast as the titular hero while Nafessa Williams ("Code Black") and China Anne McClain ("House of Payne") are tapped as his daughters Thunder and Lightning respectively. It is expected to be the first black superhero series on traditional TV.

Although Greg Berlanti, the producer of various DC TV series like "Arrow", "The Flash", "Supergirl" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow", is shepherding "Black Lightning", a crossover with any of the existing shows is unlikely to happen. "We do not aim to do a five-way crossover," The CW chief Mark Pedowitz told Entertainment Weekly. "Black Lightning, at this time, is not part of the Arrowverse. It is a separate situation. But there will be a big fourth quarter crossover with all four of the shows that are on in the fall."
