Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Carrie won't be in 'Episode IX'.

AceShowbiz - Despite recent report that "Star Wars Episode IX" would bring back Carrie Fisher as General Leia, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirms that Leia won't return for the movie. Kennedy broke the announcement on Good Morning America, explaining that while Carrie would make a lot of appearance in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", she wouldn't appear in "Episode IX".

"We finished everything [with Leia] in 'Eight', and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie," said Kennedy. "And we're so happy that we were able to complete shooting in the summer."

"Unfortunately, Carrie passed away," Kennedy added. She went on saying, "So, by the time we were well underway with 'Episode Nine', in our thoughts we had not written the script yet. But we've regrouped. We started over again in January, so, sadly, Carrie will not be in 'Nine'." However, Kennedy ensured that we would see a lot of Leia in 'Eight', "which is great."

Contrary to the confirmation, Carrie's brother Todd said last week that Carrie would appear in "Episode IX". Todd explained that he and Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd had given the studio approval to use recent unseen footage for "Episode IX". However, judging from Kennedy's statement, it seems like "The Last Jedi" will offer the last look at Carrie as General Leia.

In related news, co-star Mark Hamill shared an emotional tribute to Carrie during Star Wars Celebration Orlando. "She should be here," he said. "Part of me did fall in love with her," he later confessed.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is set to hit U.S. theaters on December 15.
