The first trailer for "Megan Leavey" has been released by Bleecker Street. The nearly-three-minute video offers glimpses of young U.S marine corporal Megan Leavey, who is portrayed by Kate Mara, as well as a particularly aggressive dog named Rex.

"I just don't know why you want to do this," says Megan's mother, Jackie Leavey (Edie Falco), in the beginning of video. Megan calmly replies, "I know you don't." Jackie tells Megan, "You don't really connect with people very well."

Based on true life story, "Megan Leavey" follows the titular character, a young marine corporal, whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved many lives during their deployment in Iraq. Megan and Rex end up serving together and complete more than 100 missions until an IED explosion injures them. After the tragedy, Megan decides to fight for the right to adopt Rex as her own.

"You can't let your life fall apart over some dogs," Jackie tells Megan when she just got back from the hospital. The marine corporal responds, "That dog saved my life."

The trailer then jumps into a scene where Megan can be seen saying to sergeant Massey (Common), "Please just change his classification so that I can adopt him when he gets back." The sergeant replies, "They aren't pet. They're warriors."

The video concludes with a woman asking Megan, "What would you say to Rex if he was here?" The corporal answers, "I'd thank him for teaching me what love is."

Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, "Megan Leavey" is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on June 9. Also starring Ramon Rodriguez, Tom Felton and Bradley Whitford, the biographical drama is penned by Pamela Gray, Annie Mumolo and Tim Lovestedt.
