Dakota Fanning Will Play a Female Lead on TNT's 'The Alienist'

The 'Twilight' alum is heading to the small screen with co-stars Daniel Bruhl and Luke Evans on a period thriller based on a best-selling novel by Caleb Carr.

AceShowbiz - Dakota Fanning is set to star as the female lead on TNT's upcoming series "The Alienist". The network announced during TCA press tour that the 22-year-old actress would join Daniel Bruhl and Luke Evans on the period thriller.

Fanning will portray Sara Howard, a "headstrong secretary at a police headquarters." She's determined to become the first female detective working in the New York City. Meanwile, Bruhl will star as criminal psychologist a.k.a. alienist Dr. Lazlo Kreizler, and Evans will play John Moore, a newspaper reporter.

Based on Caleb Carr's best-selling novel of the same name, the psychological thriller will begin the production early this year in Budapest. It chronicles a story of three investigators who are teaming up to solve a series of murders in the Gilded Age of New York City in 1986.

"The Alienist" is directed by Jakob Verbruggen. He will executive produce alongside Cary Fukunaga, Eric Roth, Hossein Amini and Anonymous Contents' Steve Golin and Rosalie Swedlin. The series is produced by Paramount Television and Studio T.

Fanning's last TV appearance was in an episode of "Friends" season 10. Her other TV credits include "Justice League Unlimited", "Family Guy", "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Ally McBeal" and "ER".

"The Alienist" is slated to premiere in late 2017 on TNT.
