First Look: Meet Miguel From Disney/Pixar's 'Coco'
Movie

The first image from the upcoming Disney/Pixar animation "Coco" has arrived. It introduces the main character, Miguel, voiced by Anthony Gonzalez. He is seen visiting his idol Ernesto de la Cruz's grave and strums a guitar. Coming from "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich, the movie due November 22, 2017 will feature all-Latino voice cast.

Miguel resides in a lively, loud Mexican village but comes from a family of shoemakers that may be the town's only music-hating household. He, however, harbors a secret desire to seize his musical moment, inspired by his favorite singer of all time. It's only after Miguel discovers an amazing link between himself and his idol that he takes action to emulate the famous singer and, in doing so, accidentally enters the Land of the Dead.

"[It's not] a break-out-into-song musical ... [It's] set against the backdrop of musical performance ... At the end of Toy Story 3, we had this moment where Jessie turns on the boom-box and the Gipsy Kings do a Spanish language version of 'You've Got a Friend in Me.' Which, it turned out, ended up being a real precursor to this movie," Unkrich explained to EW. "The day John Lasseter gave the thumbs up for this movie, I immediately felt this huge weight drop onto my shoulders because I knew that we were doing something different than we had ever made at the studio and that for the first time, we were going to have this enormous responsibility to do right by this culture and not lapse into stereotype or cliche."
