20th Century Fox has released a new behind-the-scenes image from the set of "Alien: Covenant" to celebrate director Ridley Scott's 79th birthday. The image shows the director standing next to what appears to be the cockpit of the "space jockey," an extraterrestrial being that briefly appeared in 2012's "Prometheus".

Scott directed "Alien: Covenant" from a screenplay written by Jack Paglen and Michael Green. It sees the return of Michael Fassbender as android David from the first movie, along with Noomi Rapace who is set to reprise her role as Elizabeth Shaw. The pair are joined by Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Jussie Smollett and Carmen Ejogo.

Set ten years after the event of "Prometheus", the upcoming movie follows a colony ship bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. The crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world - whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

The sci-fi horror flick is coming to U.S. theaters on May 19, 2017.
