A lawyer representing Cathriona White's family claims that the late make-up artist's friends have been contacted by two detectives who try to make them 'speak badly about the grieving family.'

AceShowbiz - The legal battle between Jim Carrey and the family of his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White just gets nastier. Days after filing wrongful death lawsuit against the actor, the late make-up artist's family now claims that Carrey has hired two private detectives whom he expects will make them drop the case.

"Within the last 48 hours, two private investigators working for Carrey have been doing everything they can to come up with information for Carrey to use," Michael Avenatti, an attorney representing White's family, said in a statement.

Avenatti went on saying that those two private investigators, Larry Broadhurst and Ed Guttierez, had talked to White's friends and asked them "questions designed to get [the friends] to speak badly about the grieving family."

"How dare Carrey and his Hollywood lawyers try and malign the family and intimidate them," Avenatti added. "Sending private investigators out to dig up dirt on a grieving mother is disgusting. These people have no bounds."

Carrey was already sued by White's estranged husband Mark Burton over the 30-year-old beauty's death before her mom Brigid Sweetman filed her own lawsuit earlier this week. She believed the "Dumb and Dumber To" star knowingly gave her daughter three STDs, verbally abused her and supplied her with the illegal drugs she took to kill herself.

Responding to the latest lawsuit, Carrey's lawyer Marty Singer branded it another sham as he pointed out that White had a "contentious relationship" with her mom and even had cut ties with her before she died.

"It is understandable that a mother who has lost a daughter will look for someone to blame. But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey and joining this ridiculous lawyer's attempt to capitalize on Cathriona's suicide, Mrs. Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona's green-card 'husband,' Mark Burton," Singer stated.

"On her 30th birthday, just a few days before her suicide, Cathriona White was distraught having received a message from her mother through Facebook that was so destructive and demoralizing that she instantly deleted her Facebook account so her mother could no longer have contact with her," he continued. "Cathriona often lamented about her contentious relationship with her mother, how she was forced to leave home at the age of 15, and how they had been estranged for years."
