The audience praises Clint Eastwood's work by giving standing ovations at the biopic's screening, while its lead actor praises the Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling-led film he doesn't even star in.

Clint Eastwood's "Sully" had its world premiere on Saturday, September 3 at Telluride Film Festival. Despite being turned down three or four times, the biopic of Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger starring Tom Hanks in the titular role was highly appreciated by and got standing ovations from 650 attendees at the event held in the Palm Theater.
According to Deadline, the movie, which centers on Captain Sully who heroically landed the troubled US Airways Flight 1549 full of passengers on the Hudson River and saves all of his 155 passengers, was turned down multiple times before Clint got involved with it. The 86-year-old helmer thought that the story was known and had already been told, before he was interested in the career of Sully. "I realized that his career as he wanted to end it was suddenly put in the balance," Clint told the site.
During Q&As for the film, Clint talked about wanting to do more original movies. Tom, however, interrupted the Q&A session at the Colorado event to praise Damien Chazelle's "La La Land". "I like to think we approach movies the same way we approach being members of the audience in that you just want to see something you have never seen before. It's funny. Who saw 'La La Land' yesterday?" the actor said as the audience clapped in response.
"When you see something that is brand new, that you can't imagine, and you think, 'Well, thank God this landed,' because I think a movie like 'La La Land' would be anethema to studios. Number one, it is a musical and no one knows the songs," the 60-year-old actor continued.
He joked that Warner Bros. would be unhappy with him for praising Lionsgate's musical drama which had its Venice premiere last Friday. Tom later elaborated his statement, "['La La Land'] is not a sequel, nobody knows who the characters are...But if the audience doesn't go and embrace something as wonderful as this then we are all doomed."
"Sully" hits U.S. theaters this Friday, while "La La Land" starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling is set for a limited release December 9 before opening wide on December 16.
