Beyonce Knowles took to Instagram on Thursday, August 25 to pay tribute to Aaliyah on the 15th anniversary of the latter's death. The "Single Ladies" hitmaker shared a sweet throwback video of her and Aaliyah during the 2000 MTV VMAs.
In the video, Beyonce was just 18 years old when she got a chance to speak to her idol at the annual music awards event. "Miss Aaliyah, so good to see you. How you doing, girl?" Queen Bey asked, "What are you looking forward to seeing tonight?" Aaliyah said D'Angelo. Bey replied, "Girl, I'm with you 'cause you know he's fine." Aaliyah added, "He's fine. He's hot. He's sexy."
Beyonce donned a yellow printed dress with her hair styled in small waves. Aaliyah, meanwhile, wore a one-shoulder black dress with her black hair straightened.
Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas following the filming the music video for the single "Rock the Boat". on August 25, 2001". At the time of the accident, the pilot of her plane was unlicensed and had traces of cocaine and alcohol in his system. The Princess of R&B was 22.
