Paul Feig's comedy horror film "Ghostbusters (2016)" opens at No. 2 at the North American box office in its first weekend as the Universal Pictures animation "The Secret Life of Pets" stays at the top spot in its second weekend. The "Ghostbusters" reboot makes its debut with $46 million.

ComScore senior box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian counts it as a "solid" opening, considering that the reboot to 1984 original film has been weathering social media backlash prior to its release. He says, "At least people are talking about the movies, and sometimes that's a victory in itself."

As for the movie featuring the voice of Kevin Hart, Louis C.K. and Eric Stonestreet, it remains unmoved at the peak with $50.8 million following its massive opening weekend which grossed $103.2 million. Dergarabedian says, "Anyone who has a dog or a cat or a pet can relate to it, and it's just a really fun movie."

Placing third is "The Legend of Tarzan". The film which stars Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie falls from last week's No. 2 with $11.4 million. "Finding Dory" slips to No. 4 with $11.3 million. The sequel to "Finding Nemo", which floated on top of the charts for weeks, has earned $445.7 million so far.

As for "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates", it is on the fifth position with $7.7 million in its second weekend. It drops one slot after earning $16.6 million in its debut last weekend.
