Initially not mentioning a specific title, the 'Tammy' star reveals she refused to be a part of sequel of a big franchise because she 'couldn't understand' the script.

AceShowbiz - Even before critics watch it, "Independence Day: Resurgence" has got negative feedback from Susan Sarandon. The veteran actress, of course, shared her opinion not based on the final outcome, but based on the script that she received when she was offered a part in it.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Sarandon was asked if she ever got an offer to star in a comic-book movie. "No, not a comic-book movie," she said, before adding, "I've been offered a few disaster movies that I just didn't think I could do with a straight face. I don't have anything against them, but when I read them, I was just like, 'Ugh.' "

"Actually I did just turn down a big, big Part 2 of something," she went on detailing. "When I read the script, I couldn't understand what was going on. I just couldn't understand it. Seriously. A lot of the people from the original one were not going to be doing it, and I read it and I just thought, 'No. I can't. I just can't.' "

When asked by the interviewer if she referred to "Independence Day 2", she allegedly nodded vigorously. The 69-year-old who will next be seen in drama comedy "The Meddler" continued sharing what made her turn down the role, "But seriously, I read that and I did not have the faintest idea. They said, 'Wait till you see how your character dies.' And I read that part and thought, 'It's not so great, actually. It's not so interesting.' "

A sequel to the 1996 blockbuster "Independence Day", "Independence Day: Resurgence" brings back Jeff Goldblum as David Levinson and Bill Pullman as former President Thomas J. Whitmore. Also starring Liam Hemsworth and Vivica A. Fox as new characters, it has Roland Emmerich returning to the director's seat. It is set to open in theaters across the nation this summer, on June 24.
