The sworn enemies of Batman came close to appearing in the upcoming movie but director Zack Snyder decided to focus on smaller group.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" almost displayed a bigger universe. Director Zack Snyder revealed in an interview that he almost included notorious Batman villains, Joker and The Riddler, in the movie.

Snyder was asked on how far he came to getting the Joker. He told Collider, "The Joker and The Riddler both came close to being in this movie. We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie and that's cool, but I didn't want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict."

Jared Leto is portraying Joker in David Ayer's upcoming "Suicide Squad". Although Joker won't appear in flesh in "Dawn of Justice", his presence will be felt in one scene. As revealed in the trailer, Robin's suit kept inside Batcave is smeared with graffiti courtesy of Joker. "HAHAHA joke's on you BATMAN," the message read.

But there are enough villains without Joker and Riddler. Jesse Eisenberg plays Luthor while Robin Atkin Downes voices and motion captures for Doomsday. "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens in the U.S. on March 25.
