Amy Adams is not scared of "Sharp Objects". The five-time Academy Award-nominated actress has signed up to take the lead role on the small-screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's debut novel, which was optioned by Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions five years ago.

Published in 2006, mystery novel "Sharp Objects" centers on reporter Camille Preaker (Adams), who returns home after a brief stay at a psych hospital. Now living at her tiny hometown, she covers the murders of two preteen girls. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story - and survive this homecoming.

Jean-Marc Vallee will direct the drama, which is being shopped to cable and streaming by Entertainment One and Blumhouse. Marti Noxon is writing the script and serving as executive producer, with Vallee, Blum and Charles Layton also executive producing. Noxon is set as showrunner.

Flynn's other novels "Gone Girl" and "Dark Places" have been turned into movies, the former of which starred Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike and the latter was led by Charlize Theron.
