Jada Pinkett Smith and Chris Rock Slam 2016 Oscars for Lack of Diversity

The actress, whose husband is left out this year's nominations, said she was in 'deep disappointment'.

AceShowbiz - Although she's not in any of the nominated movies, Jada Pinkett Smith cares a lot about this year's Oscars nominations. The actress, like a lot of people, noticed that for the second time in a row, there's a lack of diversity in the selections which were announced on Thursday, January 14.

"At the Oscars...people of color are always welcomed to give out awards...even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments," she wrote on Facebook and Twitter pages. "Should people of color refrain from participating all together? People can only treat us in the way in which we allow. With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment, J."

Smith's husband Will Smith is left out of the race for his role in "Concussion". Other praised but forgotten roles are Idris Elba in "Beasts of No Nation", Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson in "Creed", Oscar Isaac in "Ex Machina", Benicio Del Toro in "Sicario", and Jason Mitchell in "Straight Outta Compton".

Chris Rock, who is hosting the show, also bashed the Academy for not recognizing the colored people's talents. The 50-year-old actor and comedian posted a video on Twitter on Friday, captioning it, "The #Oscars. The White BET Awards."

Rev. Al Sharpton also chimed in, "Hollywood is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher up you get the whiter it gets and this year's Academy Awards will be yet another Rocky Mountain Oscars. Yet again, deserving Black actors and directors were ignored by the Academy - which reinforces the fact that there are few if any Blacks with real power in Hollywood."
