Despite being one of the most influential hip-hop acts, Run DMC unbelievably has never won a Grammy. But that's going to change at the upcoming 2016 Grammys where they will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The rap collective comprising of Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Joseph "Rev Run" Simmons and the late Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell will join other legendary names set to receive the prize, including R&B star Ruth Brown, Latin legend Celia Cruz, funk band Earth, Wind & Fire, jazz musician Herbie Hancock, rock band Jefferson Airplane and veteran diva Linda Ronstadt.

After the Recording Announced this year's recipients earlier on Wednesday, January 13, Reverend Run took to Twitter to share his excitement. "Just got a call from the Grammys!! They shocked me!! We're the first rappers to get this award!! Shocked!" he wrote.

President/CEO of the Recording Academy Neil Portnow praised the honorees in a statement, "Each year, the Academy has the distinct privilege of honoring those who have greatly contributed to our industry and cultural heritage. And this year we have a gifted and brilliant group of honorees. Their exceptional accomplishments, contributions, and artistry will continue to influence and inspire generations to come."

The 2016 Grammy Awards is set to take place on February 15 at Los Angeles' Staples Center with LL Cool J returning as a host. The event will air live on CBS from 8 P.M. ET.
