"Outlander" is adding another actor to its cast for season 2. Scottish actor Richard Rankin has been tapped to play the grown-up version of Reverend Wakefield's adopted son, Roger Wakefield, who was first seen in season 1.

As fans of the novel have known, Roger has a pivotal role in the lives of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Described as "intelligent, kindhearted and charming," Roger is a professor at Oxford who is very interested in history.

Rankin, whose credits include "Burnt", "The Syndicate" and a guest-starring role on "American Odyssey", took to Twitter to announce his casting. "Hugely excited to be joining the @Outlander_Starz family. An amazing production filled with truly wonderful people and the best fans around!" so he wrote.

There were rumors that "Game of Thrones" actress Sophie Turner would be cast as Roger's counterpart Brianna, but she has shot down the reports. Executive producer Ronald D. Moore said of finding the right actress for the part, "Hopefully we'll be announcing soon. We're getting close. But it's a tough part to cast and it's just taking a while."

"Outlander" season 2 is expected to premiere in spring 2016. The show will also introduce Robert Cavanagh as Jamie's Scottish cousin Jared Fraser, Stanley Weber as Le Comte St. Germain, Laurence Dobiesz as Black Jack Randall's (Tobias Menzies) younger brother Alex Randall, Lionel Lingelser as King Louis XV and Clive Russell as Jamie's manipulative grandfather Lord Lovat a.k.a. The Old Fox.
