Showtime Renews 'Homeland' and 'The Affair'

The political thriller and the infidelity drama will return for a sixth season and a third season respectively next year.

AceShowbiz - Showtime has renewed "Homeland" and "The Affair" for new seasons in 2016. The Claire Danes-starring thriller will be back for its sixth season while the drama starring Dominic West and Ruth Wilson will return for a third season.

The announcement came hours after "Homeland" was nominated for three SAG Awards, including best drama series and a best actress nod for Claire. Both "Homeland" and "The Affair" have edged other original series on premium cable in the fourth quarter. "Homeland" is averaging 2.7 million total viewers while "The Affair" is averaging 1.5 million total viewers.

"Homeland" season 5 has seen a dramatic reboot with the series relocating to Berlin. "The Affair" season 2, meanwhile, introduced two new perspectives into the drama.

"Homeland" season 5 was executive produced by Alex Gansa, Howard Gordon, Alexander Cary, Chip Johannessen, Lesli Linka Glatter, Meredith Stiehm, Avi Nir, Ran Telem, Gideon Raff and Patrick Harbinson. "The Affair" was created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi who are serving as executive producers along with Anya Epstein and helmer Jeffrey Reiner.

Showtime will next debut financial drama "Billions" in January. Other lined-up shows include "Episodes", "House of Lies", Cameron Crowe's "Roadies" and Andrew Dice Clay's "Dice".
