'Minions' Won Kids' Votes at 2015 BAFTA Children's Awards

Winning one of the only three categories determined by kids' votes, the animation won over 'Big Hero 6' and 'Inside Out' among others.

AceShowbiz - "Minions" snatched one of the trophies during 2015 BAFTA Children's Awards event held on Sunday, November 22 at the Roundhouse in London. The spin-off to "Despicable Me" won the best film, a category whose winner was determined by kids' votes, over such films as "Big Hero 6", "Cinderella" and "Inside Out".

Kids got to decide via votes which film, game and TV series should earn the awards. "Minecraft" was selected as best game while Canadian series "The Next Step" became the TV winner. Over at the overall category determined by the awards' boards, "Paddington" took home the best feature category.

DisneyXD's "Gravity Falls" won the best international show award just two days after creator Alex Hirsch announced that the series is coming to an end soon. Nintendo's Wii U video game "Splatoon" took the best game honor.

The event further awarded the Factual category for "I Am Leo", a documentary about a 13-year-old struggling to be accepted as a boy. It was first broadcast on BBC as part of the network's anti-bullying week.
