Ever since "Jurassic World" was announced, the dinosaur movie was rumored to be the first film in a new trilogy. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Studio executive Donna Langley confirmed it, saying that director Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg had a plan to make the Chris Pratt-starrer become a trilogy.

When asked if the team behind the blockbuster movie would have trouble releasing "Jurassic World 2" in 2018, Langley said, "There's no reason why we should [have trouble]." She then continued revealing Trevorrow and Spielberg's idea about the movie. "Colin Trevorrow is busy working on an outline. He's been working with Steven. And they have an idea for the next two movies actually. It was designed as a trilogy, unbeknown to us. It's a happy surprise," she explained

The follow-up to "Jurassic World" was announced back in July with Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard set to reprise their roles as Owen and Claire respectively. The film is said to feature a story of dinosaur breeding outside the theme park. It will reportedly involve other companies developing weaponized dinosaur technology.

Colin Trevorrow will not be back to direct "Jurassic World 2", but he admitted that he still wanted to be involved in the franchise in some capacity. The sequel to "Jurassic World" is scheduled for a release in the U.S. on June 22, 2018.
