Donald Glover's Comedy 'Atlanta' Gets Series Order at FX

FX has ordered 10 episodes of the comedy series starring the 'Community' alum which will debut in 2016.

AceShowbiz - Donald Glover's comedy "Atlanta" has gotten series order at FX. The network ordered 10 episodes of the series which will debut in 2016. The "Community" alum will star on the show and serve as executive producer alongside Paul Simms ("Girls") and Dianne McGunigle of MGMT Entertainment.

Brian Tyree Henry, Keith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz will also star on the series which centers on a pair of cousins who are trying to make their mark on the Atlanta rap scene. Donald will play Earnest "Earn" Marks, "a loner who returns to his hometown of Atlanta to try to make ends meet before being drawn into the rap scene when his cousin, Alfred Miles (Brian), suddenly becomes the city's hottest thing, skyrocketing into fame."

Lakeith will star as Darius, Alfred's musical collaborator and right-hand man, while Zazie will play Van, Earn's on-and-off love interest and baby mama.

" 'Atlanta' draws on Donald's considerable talents as a musician, actor and writer to give us something unique," FX original programming president Nick Grad says in a statement. "The story is made all the more powerful by the great cast and the contributions of Donald's fellow executive producer Paul Simms and director Hiro Murai. We can't wait for the debut of 'Atlanta' next year."

The "Atlanta" pickup was a longtime coming. The project was first put in development in 2013 before it was ordered as a pilot in December 2014.
