Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' Is the First Song to Earn 500 Million Plays on Spotify

According to Spotify, the British singer has 19 million people listening to him on the service every month and has his songs added to around 38 million playlists.

AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran has reached another major milestone in his career. Spotify announced on Monday, October 12 that the British gingerhead's massive hit "Thinking Out Loud" had become the first song to reach 500 million plays on the popular music streaming service.

"Chuffed to hear that 'Thinking Out Loud' has had half a billion plays on Spotify," Sheeran responded to the news in a statement. "Being the first artist to hit that milestone is amazing. Thanks to all the people who use this as a wedding song, soundtrack to a date, and as a way to woo someone into a Netflix-and-chill situation."

According to Spotify, around 19 million people listen to Sheeran on Spotify each month. His tracks have overall been streamed nearly 2.9 billion times and are included in 38 million playlists. He's the second most-streamed artist, beaten out only by Eminem.

Along with the announcement, Spotify also created a graphic called the Sheerio Index showing which countries have the most people listening to Sheeran. Denmark has the most Ed Sheeran listeners in the world, followed by Norway, Singapore, Sweden and his homeland, the U.K.
