As promised, Drake and Future released their highly-anticipated joint mixtape "What a Time to Be Alive" on Sunday, September 20. The two rappers streamed the project in its entirety on Drizzy's OVO Sound radio show on Beats 1 before exclusively making it available on iTunes.
The tape has 11 tracks, including one that some listeners think features a diss aimed at Drake's nemesis Meek Mill. On the song called "Big Rings", Future seems to declare he's on Team Drizzy as he raps, "You just a battle rapper, I'm an official trapper."
"What a Time to Be Alive" was executive produced by Metro Boomin. The likes of Boi-1da, Southside and Noah "40" Shebib made contribution to the set too.
"It's a little soundtrack for people that need it right now," Drake said of the mixtape before premiering it on his radio show. He also revealed how he ended up working with Future on the record, explaining, "I went to Atlanta for six days a couple weeks ago with the hopes of doing some songs with Future, and when you get around Future, it's like a vortex, that guy can outwork anybody right now. It's tough to see someone do four, five songs in one night and not try to match it."
Drake will continue to dominate the game as he's still expected to release his new album "Views From the 6" later this year. The follow-up to 2013's "Nothing Was the Same" has yet to have an official release date.
